Mid August feels like October

Wow, the morning walk up to the lodge near the lake felt like a bad October day. The north wind blowing, the waves crashing; there was even the spotting of what looked to be a snowball on the pavement near the parking area....quickly discovered it was just a warm pile of lake foam that the gusts had moved from the shoreline.
As guests arrived for coffee I asked what they thought of the weather. Comments ranged from 'it's a real northwoods day, to a good day for hiking, snuggling in and relaxing. Kind of moody; but no one seems to really mind (one said it made nature more exciting). The gusts have quieted it a bit and Lou is preparing what will be the first fire in the fireplace since spring. What is remarkable is that everyone seems to have come on vacation prepared for this quick change. The book: Minnesota, Bring Warm Clothes from the 1800's gives pertinent advice even for today.
