Looking towards summer
March 17, 2011
Spring is in the air no matter what part of the country one may live. The earlier rise of the sun and length of day are always so encouraging.
As a gardener, my thoughts jump to what to plant where this season and the consequential list of flowers to try. Each summer is a bit different and it would be so helpful if we knew if Mother Nature is going to give us long and gently warm days; will it be cool (hoping not); or will it be hot, hot, hot (definitely hoping not).
The summer that was downright cold and wet was the one year that we grew the Himalayan Blue Poppy and it even bloomed. The following summers were much warmer by comparison and no amount of nurturing kept this exciting plant alive. The wisdom we learn by gardening is to be adaptable, accept the challenge and look for gifts of the season.
The inquiries we receive for new reservations always pickup at this time of year; many from new guests for whom this will be there first visit and then too, the calls from those who have stayed with us previously. As we'’ve said before, we are truly blessed at Burntside with the most wonderful guests.
If you are contemplating a stay at Burntside just let us know the dates and we’ll be happy to let you know what is open for your consideration. If you'’ve stayed with us before and want to share a memory, please do. We'’ll be adding more posts more frequently now as we know there are many who are as anxious as we are for the lake to be ice free and ready for summer activity.
We’'ll have guests to open the 2011 season quietly beginning in early May. The restaurant and lounge will open on Thursday, May 26th.
Burntside ... now a summer place for 98 years .... and counting.
