Early Summer Smells
June 08, 2011
Pungent and unmistakably sweet ... the fragrance of lilacs in the morning after a night time summer rain. Wow! Stepping outdoors after an all night rain into the warm, wet grass is an amazing thing. The short walk to The Lodge found me stopping to pick allium blooms that are 3' high, seem to be on steroids with the moisture and warmth. The profuse blooms of lilacs, honeysuckle, wild roses, pin cherries and lily of the valley seem to surround each and every step. Nothing compares to this time of year, right down to the birds singing throughout the night ... it's early summer at the lake.
